Frequently Asked Questions
When should I seek therapy?
There are lots of reasons why someone might consider therapy. Most often, people reach out when they’re feeling stuck and want support in understanding themselves better or working through something difficult. That might look like depression, anxiety, challenges with emotion regulation, relationship and communication difficulties, stress, trauma, or something else entirely.
If you’re not sure therapy is the right fit for what you’re going through, feel free to reach out through the contact page or book a complimentary phone consultation, and we can figure it out together.
How long are therapy sessions, and how many will I need?
Therapy sessions are 50 minutes. The length of your treatment is something we’ll work out together, based on your goals, your schedule, and what makes sense financially. Some people find that a handful of therapy sessions in Toronto or online is enough, while others prefer longer-term support. There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, and that’s okay.
What can I expect in my first session?
The first therapy session is really about getting to know you. We’ll talk about what’s brought you in and start to get a sense of the context and history that helps us understand how best to support you. There is nothing you need to prepare in advance. This initial process can take one to three sessions, after which we’ll discuss your goals and map out a plan together.
Building a comfortable, trusting relationship is paramount, and it’s our first priority!
Are sessions covered by my insurance?
Services aren’t covered under OHIP, but they may be covered in part or in full through your extended health benefits, whether that’s through your employer, school, or a private insurance plan. It’s worth checking with your insurer before your first appointment so you know where you stand. These services may also qualify as a tax-deductible expense.
First Nations and Inuit clients covered under the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) program can have sessions covered through direct billing, as can individuals eligible through certain WSIB programs.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 24 hours notice if you need to reschedule or cancel, so that the time can be offered to someone else who needs it. For sessions cancelled at the last minute or missed without notice, the full session fee applies.
